A significant challenge for this proposal for a university student center is to provide a transition between its active public face to the city of Burlington, and the more quiet interior facing the UVM campus. Along a main thoroughfare, on the building’s “public side,” are various open spaces and undulating slopes of grass that frame views of the lobbies. On the building’s more “private” side, it completes a campus quadrangle, creating an important new exterior space.
